About

MinerWerks is a repository for the creative work of Derek Miner.

As a high school student, Derek was a published film critic in his local newspaper, The Bradenton Herald. In college, he embraced the expanding potential of the internet, creating a fan site about Reprise Records artists The Muffs and contributing DVD reviews and behind-the-scenes articles to various internet and small press publications.

After graduating from the University of Central Florida with a BA in Radio-Television, Derek worked in post-production and equipment rental before joining the PAX-TV network. He has continued on with the network through a transition to become ION Television, working in program operations.

When film director Kevin Smith launched his entertainment news site Movie Poop Shoot in 2002, Derek was chosen to contribute two regular columns, Critical Mess and Read More About It. He also contributed features and interviews,
including a visit to the set of The Punisher.

In 2003, Derek was asked to apply his Critical Mess formula to a feature for Newsweek magazine and his concept of a Kevin Smith/View Askew calendar was adapted for production by Graphitti Designs.

In 2005, Derek co-founded the Sunscreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, FL. He served as programming director and technical director for the first four years of the Festival and continues on the Board of Directors.

In recent years, Derek has worked on several television pilots and independent feature films, including Mandatory OvertimeWaste of Space and December. He provides graphic design, video editing and DVD authoring services.
